| Planning your Legacy
Leaving a legacy includes passing on knowledge, and assets, in accordance with your wishes. You may have strong feelings about how you want to best help your children, your grandchildren, or your favorite charity or charities. Estate planning can help you make the most of those decisions, without the majority of your estate going through a lengthy (over a year) court process, or a substantial portion of your estate going to the IRS, which is what happens when you have no, or improper planning.
Estate planning is not a complicated process. It starts with a simple will, and then requires checkups at each life change or change in the law, which is usually done automatically by a professional.
You will be able to pass on all or most of your estate to those people and ideals you cherish most – if you plan ahead. Start today by just having us write that will, and then we can work through the rest as you can.
Remember that you have the opportunity to direct your money that will otherwise be forfeit as taxes. This is money that would not go to your family, business, or favorite causes; but will be lost in the powerful currents of political special interests.
If you don’t plan, someone else will decide what happens to your life’s work. Their estate plan for you may reflect values opposed to all you hold dear.
The most important thing in planning your legacy is to start today. It’s human nature to put things off, but recognizing the value of taking care of your future now will leave you free to relax and enjoy life without worry.
